How do I clean the inside of my shoes?
The inside area of the shoes should by no means be neglected. You should clean the inside of your shoes 3 to 4 times a year. You can of course care for the outside more often. Don’t forget the sole too!
Thing is, so far I couldn’t find a product that is good for cleaning AND restoring the natural pH Value of the leather. So what I do is to combine two products, a shoe cleaner and a pH Neutralizer which washes sweat and salt residues out of the leather. This is how you clean your leather shoes but you also clean the footbed of your Birkenstocks or any other sandals the same way.
- Dilute shoe cleaner 1:1/2 ph Neutralizer
- Dilute that amount 1:1 with water let a sponge soak it up
- You treat the inside of the shoes with the sponge
- After use, wipe lightly with a dry cotton cloth.
- Then stuff your shoes with newspaper and let them air dry.
After cleaning the inside, the soles are clean again and no longer show any discoloration.
