How to clean the inside of shows and how often

the inside of the shoes need care as well

How do I clean the inside of my shoes?

The inside area of the shoes should by no means be neglected. You should clean the inside of your shoes 3 to 4 times a year. You can of course care for the outside more often. Don’t forget the sole too!

Thing is, so far I couldn’t find a product that is good for cleaning AND restoring the natural pH Value of the leather. So what I do is to combine two products, a shoe cleaner and a pH Neutralizer which washes sweat and salt residues out of the leather. This is how you clean your leather shoes but you also clean the footbed of your Birkenstocks or any other sandals the same way.

  1. Dilute shoe cleaner 1:1/2 ph Neutralizer
  2. Dilute that amount 1:1 with water let a sponge soak it up
  3. You treat the inside of the shoes with the sponge
  4. After use, wipe lightly with a dry cotton cloth.
  5. Then stuff your shoes with newspaper and let them air dry.

After cleaning the inside, the soles are clean again and no longer show any discoloration.

Shoe cleaner for the inside and against shoe odor

The best way to wash away sweat and salt residues is with a shoe cleaner mixed with a pH neutralizer so that the pH value of the leather is restored.

Make your own special stuff

So I basically mix the cleaner and the neutralizer together and clean the inside of the shoes with a little water and a sponge.

Shoe trees keep the shoes in shape

But most importantly, not only for the inside of the shoe, but also for the outside: the use of a shoe shaper. It keeps the shoe in shape when it dries and absorbs moisture. That’s why it’s made of untreated wood. Here you can find out more about shoe trees and shoe formers.

With these products, your shoes will stay beautiful for a long time. And don’t forget to always use a shoe tree!
